Background Color

To add a background to the entire canvas, click on the Background icon in the Editor.

To add a solid color as your background, click on the color chip, then select your color.   Pick your shade using the rainbow-gradient, then pick your tone by clicking into the larger gradient.

To reset your canvas to white, click in the top left corner of the gradient, or set the color to HEX #FFFFFF.

To set your canvas to black, click in the bottom left corner of the gradient, or set the color to HEX #000000.

To make the background more transparent, use the slider below the gradient. The color may appear lighter, but it is actually showing the white background below the tint.

Background Textures & Photos

Memento Yearbook includes a collection of backgrounds. To add a background to your page, select one of the folders below the color option. Scroll down to see all thematic collections, then click into the folder to see the selections available.  Click directly on a background preview to apply it to your entire canvas.

To navigate out of the collection, click on the back arrow next to the collection name.

Use the slider to scroll up and down the collection list to explore other options.  You can try out as many backgrounds as you like.

To use one of your own  photo as the background image on your page, click on the Photos tab, locate your photo in your collections, and click on the photo of your choice. It will automatically apply to the background of your page.

Resizing & Repositioning the Background

The background is clamped automatically to fill the entire canvas to its maximum capacity. You can, however, reposition or zoom in on the photo. Double-click on the background to make the pan & zoom handles appear.

To move the photo or background, click down on the crosshairs and drag in any direction. Note that you cannot drag the image past its edges.

To zoom in/out, click down on the magnifying glass and drag up or down. Note that the image cannot be zoomed out below 100% visibility.

Background Image Effects

Select your canvas background to access the Image FX options. Adjust color, tone, and even flip the background. Consult the Image Effects article to learn about the various effects.

Note that you can use the Flip Horizontal option to create mirror backgrounds.

To apply a color wash over an image or background texture, first set the background color on the Background tab. Next, add a texture or photo. Last, under the Image FX tab, dial down the image opacity. The photo/texture will now be washed with background color.

Using a color wash on a background can create an interesting designer effect.

Tip: If you want to remove the canvas background, reset your canvas to white using the color option, or you can simply click undo.

A brief video tutorial is available to show you how to use image effects to change the color on backgrounds and decorative elements.
